Environmental Sciences
BACKGROUND Northern New Mexico College is surrounded by public lands, agriculture, recreational areas, and Los Alamos National Laboratory . Issues concerning water, air, and soil quality, sustainable agriculture, fire and rangeland management, as well as addressing the concerns regarding potential impact of facility operations from the Laboratory require the College to develop its capacity to address these issues. OPPORTUNITIES: In 2006 Northern New Mexico College received recommendation as a four year accredited College in the area of Environmental Science from the The Higher Learning Commission (HLC),North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Unique in addressing regional environmental issues and concerns, NNMC offers an Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science with concentration areas in the areas of
- Environmental Science,
- Forestry, and
- Sustainable Agriculture.
To deepen their knowledge and sharpen their skills, students will choose environmentally-focused courses in their emphasis area from upper-division offerings in biology, communications, forestry, mathematics, and political science.
