Northern New Mexico College received a three year federal grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration to help facilitate area economic development activities through education and employment assistance. Project staff will provide research, coordination, information dissemination and technical assistance in the areas of
- forecasting job needs for college curriculum decisions,
- developing entrepreneurship courses and programs,
- promoting technology transfer from LANL
- establishing engineering technology associate and bachelor degree programs,
- developing the El Rito Heritage Retreat Center
- and assisting local economic development groups in workforce development issues.
NNMC ¡Sostenga! La Vida Commercial Kitchen (The Sustenance of Life!)
Lending itself to Northern New Mexico's strong agricultural spirit, Northern New Mexico College's Commercial Kitchen brings value added food production to the Espanola Valley.
The Kitchen
- assists farmers and ranchers in developing value added products from their crops,
- provides food entrepreneurs with a facility fo produce products for retail/wholesale distribution,
- provides expert information via short courses,
- assists with kitchen management personnel for technical needs, and
- provides formal course work in Food Science and Technology (Associate Degree).
NORTHERN NEW MEXICO COLLEGE ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES
In 2006 Northern New Mexico College received recommendation as a four year accredited College in the area of Environmental Science from the The Higher Learning Commission (HLC),North Central Association of Colleges and Schools
. Unique in addressing regional environmental issues and concerns, NNMC offers an Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science with concentration areas in the areas of
- Environmental Science and Management,
- Forestry, and
- Sustainable Agriculture.
